Ragamuffin #1: Ann Harrison 1830 by Shakespeare's Peddler

This was the first sampler I ever bought, and I still remember how nervous and excited I was to have found it. I paid way too much for it, considering the condition it was in, but something about it spoke to me. Ann was only nine when she stitched her sampler, and the original was stitched in wools on linen.

The verse is an old standard -- very common on samplers at that time. The arrangement of the alphabet at the top, the changing border flower colors, the windmill, and those crazy animals in a patchwork lawn make for a charming piece.

My sampler graph is charted for silks or DMC floss on hand-dyed linen.
