This is a hard book to track down -- it came out in 2003, and I used to carry it up in my Fargo shop. It's got lots of information and little graphs about the meaning behind sampler motifs. Plus, there are a few full-sized sampler charts in the back for you to stitch. This is one of my favorite library items -- a must for sampler lovers.
