Jane Philpott 1837 by Shakespeare's Peddler
I purchased Jane's sampler along with her sister Sarah's sampler back in around 2009. They are English samplers and stitched in the same colors and are about the same size. But they have different motifs and verses. I am so proud of this reproduction, because the reproduction looks so close to the original sampler. I think Jane would be proud to know we are admiring her work in the 21st century.
My model is stitched on 40 count Vintage Homespun by Lakeside Linens. The threads are a mixture of Au Ver a Soie and Needlepoint Silks, but I do include a DMC conversion. The stitch count is 290 by 390, and it is not recommended for stitching on Aida, because the verse is stitched over-one.
The verse:
Christ's agony on the cross
Stricken, smitten and afflicted
See him dying on the tree
Tis the Christ by man rejected
Yes my soul tis he tis he
Here we have a firm foundation
Here's teh refuge of the lost
Christ's the rock of our salvation
His the name of which we boast
